The size of the Ellenbrook Sports Hub, with four full-sized synthetic pitches, was also a drawcard for the world-class training camp.

About 145 male and female players are attending the FC Barcelona Escola Camp over five days between October 3 and 7.

They were tutored by three coaches from Barcelona, assisted by a selection of local soccer trainers.

The club’s FCB Escola program now reaches about 20,000 children across the world, imparting the Barcelona playing model and club philosophy.

Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said Football Club Barcelona’s decision to host its training camp at Ellenbrook was testament to the new facility’s quality.

“Ellenbrook Sports Hub is a world class synthetic grass sports complex that meets high international standards,” he said.

“To have one of the largest sporting teams in the world choose it for their junior training camps shows we have built something special.

“I hope the facility helps many youngsters reach their potential in a range of sports into the future.”

The synthetic grass surface is able to withstand triple the playing time compared traditional a grass field.
