Gridiron: Swan City Titans ready to touch down in WA comp

Lauren PedenThe Advocate

MORE than 50 players attended the Swan City Titans’ senior open day in Stratton on Sunday with organisers impressed by the turn out.

Representative of the gridiron club Layke Rossiello said it would now be training from 6pm on Wednesdays and 2pm on Sundays until round 1 in October.

“The turn out on the day was fantastic, we had a great mix of experienced players and rookies trying the sport for the first time,” Rossiello said.

“The Gridiron West competition runs during summer from October to February and this has been a huge draw card for players wanting to try something new.”

He said the club had some amazing feedback from the group after the session.

“Also, with players saying that we created an inviting atmosphere and that all coaches were very positive and had great knowledge of the game,” he said.

“The response from the community itself has been great. Every day we are getting more offers for people wanting to volunteer their time.

“The more the merrier.”

The Hills Gazette reported last month that Gridiron West had voted unanimously to affiliate the football side at a committee meeting on May 9.

Rossiello said interest had already been building prior to the open day through the Titans’ social media and website.
