Lions tamed by dominant Saints

Joel KellyThe Advocate

For the first time this season the Saints went into the game with all of their key midfield players fit and available, which had an immediate impact on the opposition.

From the first bounce, the Saints showed dominance all around the ground and held the footy in their forward half.

If not for wayward kicking in front of goal, the Saints would have had the game won at the quarter time break, having 15 scoring shots for the term.

The second quarter saw much of the same from the Saints as Mt Helena struggled to clear the ball beyond their defensive 50.

Bullsbrook kicked eight goals for the term and kept the Lions to two points, taking an 82 point lead into the long break.

In the third quarter, Mt Helena came out and threw everything at their opponents kicking four goals for the term.

But The Saints managed to weather the storm and returned five of their own to extend the lead into the last break.

The last quarter became one-way traffic as the Saints piled on 10 goals for the term with a dominant display coming from Bullsbrook midfield who cleared the ball with ease.

Final scores saw the Saints victors by 149 points, Bullsbrook 28.17 185 to Mt Helena 5.6 36.

Bullsbrook shared the load with 16 different goal scorers for the match.

The best of the lot was J. Edwards who bagged five from the midfield and took best on ground honours.

Other good contributors for the Saints were B. Ghirradi and R. Bennett who both swept around the packs all day clearing the ball with ease at the stoppages.
