AN inaugural equestrian event in the Swan Valley attracted competitors from around the metropolitan area.

The first of three shows recently organised by Ripplebrook Equestrian Vaulting Academy included eight newcomers to the sport.

More than 17 vaulters performed compulsory and freestyle displays to music at walk and canter pace, along with pas des deux (pairs) on the barrel.

Equestrian Australia judge Carol Brice commended the enthusiasm of the competitors and encouraged rides to continue developing their skills.

The second event in the Bump Up will take place on August 27.
