City of Swan Mayor Charlie Zannino paid tribute to Mr Gregorini, his predecessor, who served in local government for 31 years.

Mr Gregorini (63) died in a tractor accident at his Swan View property in 2008.

‘Charlie was very committed to the local community and it’s fitting that we commemorate the fifth anniversary of his passing,’ he said.

The event raises a significant sum of money for the Charlie Gregorini Memorial Fund each year.

‘This fund supports the great work being done by the Swan City Youth Service,’ he said.

Midland ward councillor Sandra Gregorini said her late husband had been a passionate supporter of the SCYS.

‘Charlie always used to say that youth are our future and we should give them what help we can along the way,’ she said.

‘He made time for young people from all walks of life ” he would talk to street kids and young people who were down on their luck. He was a real friend, offering encouragement to them. He didn’t talk down to them, treating them as equals and they, too, mourned his passing.

‘I’d like to acknowledge my fellow councillors, Mel Congerton and Kevin Bailey, and let them know that I appreciate all the work they have done to organise the event.’
