THE weather gods were kind this month when the Perth Scorchers officially launched the PlayCricket Week at Ellenbrook Secondary College.

Cricket fanatic and Pearce MHR Christian Porter said: “Whether you play cricket in the school yard, the backyard or under the lights at the WACA, cricket is a sport for all. Having Scorchers stars Joel Paris, Jason Behrendorff and Heather Graham at the launch was fantastic.”

WA Cricket Association game and market development manager Jo Davies said: “This is the period of the year when we get to focus all our attention on getting out into the community, getting kids excited about the season ahead and meeting the passionate supporters who make the game possible,” she said.

“Fundamentally, we all begin playing a sport because we love and enjoy it.

“That’s what PlayCricket is all about; taking the game out to the community, encouraging last year’s players to sign up again and inspiring those who might have never picked up a bat or ball, to get involved.”
