A STELLAR basketball season concluded last week for the Ellenbrook Warriors when they conquered their final hurdle to become All Schools State Basketball champions.

The Warriors easily accounted for Lumen Christi 51-34 on Wednesday at Lords Recreation Centre in Subiaco.

Marcell Blackie said he was delighted to be a part of the winning team.

‘I’ve been in finals before but nothing is more exciting and adventurous as this is,’ Blackie said.

The Warriors dominated the first quarter, and Lumen Christi took a time-out after they were kept scoreless.

The Warriors led 13-4 at the first break.

Repetitive errors by Lumen Christi in the second quarter allowed the Warriors to sink some easy baskets.

A tight defence kept the scores low at 24-15.

Fast breaks and clever plays in the third quarter saw the Warriors bagging easy points and kept the scoreboard ticking over 39-20.

Up by 19 points, the Warriors were determined to finish on a high.

‘I’ve been saying all along that the boys had the ability to win state, they just had to find their self-belief,’ coach Nathan Brown said.

Ellenbrook’s four high schools will compete in the Battle of the Brooks basketball competition next term.
