Young star ready to ace the competition

The nine-year-old is ranked WA’s top player and number three nationally for girls in her birth year.

Her prowess with the racquet has blossomed after being part of junior development squads at the State Tennis Centre in Burswood and training with older players at Brixton Street Tennis Centre in Beckenham.

Talia was the youngest tennis player selected to represent WA during the recent Super 10s event in Melbourne, which featured the best tennis players aged under 10 in Australia and was played on hard and clay courts.

She helped fifth-seeded WA claim second place after being undefeated in five doubles matches.

Mother Lee said her daughter started playing tennis at five.

‘She made extraordinary progress and is one of only two players from WA to have an Australian ranking at age eight.’

Mrs Gibson said Talia was determined to improve her game.

‘Her coach, John Roberts from Brixton Street, says that one of Talia’s strengths is her very powerful ground strokes for such a young player,’ she said.

‘Talia’s aim is to continue to work hard to achieve her goal of being a pro tennis player like her favourite player, Ana Ivanovic.’
