The couple, who ran Joondalup Retravision for nearly 25 years, were recognised with the Joondalup Business Association leadership award at the annual North West Metro Small Business Awards last Friday.
‘It means a great deal to be honest,’ Mr Davies said. ‘A quarter of a century worth of deal.
‘It’s quite an emotional feeling.’
He told the Weekender ” he and his wife are moving to South Yunderup and were unable to attend the function ” they were ‘thankful to so many people’.
The Good Guys Joondalup proprietor Debbie Lanario accepted the award on behalf of her friends and former competitors.
She first met Mr Davies in 1987 when as Phillips Refrigeration state manager he hired her for a job on the sales desk.
‘Some time after he told me he was leaving and was going to start his own shop with his wife in Joondalup,’ she said.
‘He showed me the block of land in Joondalup and said ‘how cool, this is going to be my store’ and he pointed out where the shopping centre (Lakeside) would go ” it had just been cleared.
‘During their tenure (at Retravision) they looked after a lot of people and supported a lot of local clubs.’
Ms Lanario said the couple’s children Ben, Adam, Yasmin and Kate had all worked in the family business.
‘John will be missed as a person in our industry,’ she said.
