Butcher gets a moove on with meat delivery business

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

After 11 years running Star of the North butcher shop in Currambine, Mr Brewer launched a business delivering fresh meat to remote towns in WA’s northwest.

‘A customer was in my butcher shop one day buying a lot of meat and she told me she was taking it back home up to Karratha,’ he told the Weekender after winning best new business at the North West Metro Small Business Awards.

‘She said to me ‘you should set up a truck and sell your meat up there like the fish truck that comes to town’.’

Mr Brewer, who said he always wanted to drive a truck, saw an opportunity to combine the two professions and two years later North West Express Mobile Butcher was born.

The meat is prepared in Connolly and Mr Brewer visits Newman, Tom Price, Onslow, Karratha and Carnarvon once a month to deliver it.

‘These communities have very little infrastructure or shops,’ he said.
