A FRESH produce store has set up shop in Drover’s Market Place, filling the void left by a fruit and veg shop’s sudden closure earlier this year.

Family Fresh Growers Market will hold its official opening this Saturday to launch the store at the shopping precinct on the corner of Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive.

General manager Alberto Caeiro said the market was owned by Reinaldo Nunes, who has IGA supermarkets in Darch, Ellenbrook and Aveley.

Despite roadworks for the flyover and reduced access to Drovers Place, Mr Caeiro said they saw potential for the business due to local demand.

“The community has been quite excited that we’ve opened,” he said.

“All the locals enjoyed coming to the (previous) store.

“Predominantly they were getting top quality produce from the store.

“We spent a bit of money revamping the store.

“A lot of care has been put into it to make people feel welcome.”

Mr Caeiro said he and Shail Vekaria were running the store, which employed about 20 people including casual employees.

He said as well as selling produce grown by local families and from Canning Vale Markets, the store had an in-house butchery.

“It’s an over-the-counter, old-fashioned style butchery,” he said.

Mr Caeiro said the store was open 6am to 9pm seven days a week to offer convenience for shoppers.

The October 26 launch will include a free sausage sizzle, giveaways, a petting zoo with Pet City Wanneroo and bouncy castle.
