BARTENDERS at Girrawheen’s Newpark Tavern are encouraging patrons to support the Leukaemia Foundation through upcoming events.

Participants in the fundraising competition show their UGLY (Understanding, Generous, Likeable You) side in a bid to win the charity’s UGLY bartender of the year title.

Newpark Tavern’s assistant manager Riley Michael joined the campaign to raise awareness and funds for people living with blood cancer.

“I’m so glad my venue is 100 per cent behind me,” he said.

“So far, we have raised over $3000 with raffles, bar games and special events like AFL grand final, Bledisloe Cup and Halloween.”

Newpark Tavern plans to reach their fundraising goal by running more raffles and hosting a special ladies brunch encouraging all patrons to wear something blue in support of the foundation.

Every $80 raised during the competition will fund one night’s accommodation for a patient and their carer while they access treatment in Perth.

Other northern suburbs venues taking part include Alexander Bar and Bistro, Greenwood Hotel, Carine Glades Tavern, The Kingsley Tavern, Wanneroo Villa Tavern, Lot One Kitchen, Down the Hatch, Paddy Malones, Whale and Ale and Indian Ocean Brewing Company.

The foundation will announce the WA 2017 UGLY bartender of the year winner after November 14.
