Kingsley’s gluten-free Prague Bakery expands to Joondalup

Tyler BrownWanneroo Times

PEOPLE intolerant to gluten may have thought they would never taste a good jam donut or pastry again – but a northern suburbs bakery is changing that.

Czech Republic baker of 50 years Jaromir Urbanek opened Prague Bakery in Kingsley seven years ago, specialising in gluten-free products including breads, donuts, pizzas, cheese sticks, croissants and danishes.

“A friend of mine has coeliac disease and they were explaining to me there weren’t many options for people this disease so I decided to explore with gluten-free products so there was more of a variety,” he said.

Recently, the family-owned business expanded to Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City.

Mr Urbanek said while business was “still picking up”, he enjoyed the challenge and saw many regular customers at both bakeries.

“We’ve been informed the taste of our gluten-free products is much better than other products,” he said,

“We are always testing new products to expand our gluten-free range.”

Customer reviews on Facebook include “amazing gluten-free products”, “lovely gluten-free pizza and the gluten-free jam donut so so good”, “spoilt for choice – wanted to buy everything to try”, “one of the best gluten-free fruit breads I have tasted” and “thank you for your lovely gluten-free range – ever expanding – which has made our son’s gluten-free journey so much yummier”.

“So glad we found you,” Karen Firth also posted.

“Three coeliacs in our family and we were all in heaven eating your scrummy jam doughnuts and croissants – it’s been years.

“Croissants were amazing; however do you do it?

“We live miles away but I’ll happily make the journey for your excellent products.”

Prague Bakery also offers traditional products including European breads, ryes, sourdoughs, strudels and cakes.

Mr Urbanek said he hoped to continue expanding the business.
