National retail general manager Gai McGrath officially opened the Joondalup branch, formerly known as the Westpac Joondalup Migrant Centre, in Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City’s new south mall.
Bank manager Mark Manson, who was named Westpac’s top manager across Australia last year, welcomed guests and speakers Make a Wish Foundation WA’s Scott Hine and Joondalup Business Association chief executive Clive Haddow.
Shirley Harris spoke about the region’s late elder Yellagonga in her Welcome to Country address before Mr Hine said his foundation, with the support of the bank, had granted almost 50 wishes to critically ill children in WA last year.
Mr Haddow talked about the types of small businesses in the region and challenges they faced, including succession planning and the need to embrace new technology.
He said it would be good to see technology companies set up in Joondalup.
‘Creating jobs is paramount. We can’t have people going to the city (Perth) each day,’ he said.
