THE advantages of morning fitness classes at Marangaroo Primary School extend miles beyond physical benefits for students.

Faster Fitter Stronger was an initiative by physical education teacher Fiona Irvine and runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8am.

‘It was started to give students an opportunity to be more active in a fun environment as the sessions include music,’ Ms Irvine said.

The classes have remained a hit throughout the year, with as many as 45 students attending regularly.

‘Even during the colder winter months quite a number of students still turned up for their morning workout,’ Ms Irvine said.

‘We have also had parents turn up and join in with the workouts as well, which has been fantastic to see.’

She said the school won the meritorious award at the recent interschool athletics carnival for the first time since 2007.
