Richard Hannay (played by Cataldo) seeks a frivolous night out at the theatre and is lured into a world of intrigue by a mysterious woman claiming to be a spy.

When she dies in his flat, he flees London with the police hot on his trail and experiences a series of misadventures and old-fashioned romance.

“Richard Hannay is at a crossroad in his life and is bored, lonely and needing something to do,” Cataldo said.

“What he gets is more than he bargained for when he meets a beautiful mysterious woman who sends him headlong into frenzied chases and death-defying leaps.

“Hell-bent on finding the truth, his journey is full of calamity, chaos and perhaps even love.”

Cataldo said he was attracted to play because of its “terrific blend of mystery, suspense, surprise and those one-liners that have made us all laugh for decades”.

Director James Hough-Neilson, of Kallaroo, said he had previously seen the Broadway and West End productions of The 39 Steps.
