GIRRAWHEEN Senior High School graduate Dylan James has found himself mixed up in a world of sex, dishonesty and betrayal.

It’s all part of his latest role at the Old Mill Theatre, as strangers become lovers and lovers become strangers.

Written by Patrick Marber and directed by Trevor Dhu, Closer explores the pain that comes with love as the romantic lives of four characters intertwine in contemporary London.

James plays Larry, a dermatologist.

Closer is a dynamic play that examines the romantic relationships between four vastly unlikable people,” he said. “There are lies, manipulation and acts of emotional violence.

“Larry is probably the most vicious of the lot but the difference is he’s aware of it, honest about it and enjoys it.”

Closer won the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for best new play and has been translated into 30 languages and produced in more than 200 cities across the world.

In 2004, Marber adapted the play into a film featuring Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Clive Owen.
