Hillarys photographer Rebecca Johansson spent more than three hours and took about 200 images to take the shot that won her the title of WA’s best illustrative photographer.
The Australian Institute of Professional Photography award, Illustrative Photographer of the Year, was presented recently to acknowledge her picture of WAAPA contemporary dance student Charity Ng Jen Yi leaping into the air.
Ms Johansson, who works for Compose Photography, said the final shot was worth all the hard work.
‘Charity was amazing; before every shot we had to cover her with chalk powder and she ended up leaping about 200 times to get it right,’ she said. ‘Working out the lighting and also getting an action shot in a small studio were challenges, but I was very happy with the result.’
The winning photo was taken using a Canon 5D Mk 3 camera with a 35mm lens.
Winning photos in all categories will be on display at the Moores Building in Fremantle between June 22 and July 7.
