Lauren PedenWanneroo Times

The budding northern suburbs starlets will share the stage with JohnO'Hara and Lisa Adam in the Australian Performing Arts Network's production High School Musical.

Imogen Dearlove (Ocean Reef), Breht Wilson (Mullaloo), Grace Elford (Burns Beach), Chloe Marlow (Mullaloo), Luis Barnes (Kallaroo), who are all 13, and 12-year-old Mia Lupton (Wanneroo), were all chosen for the ensemble.

"It felt really good to be accepted. We had to sing solos in a group and we had to do a dance audition as well," Imogen said. "I loved that movie when I was little and I still love it now."

Breht said she was really excited and overwhelmed to make the cast.

"We're doing Status Quo from High School Musical and We're all in This Together, that's all we've done so far, but later on we'll be learning some more dances and we get to dance and sing and play our parts," she said.

"It's so good. I like the crazy costumes you get to wear because Im a thespian " so a bit overboard."

Grace said she would be singing, dancing and acting in her role as a geek for the show.

"We have to pretend to do our homework or read a book," she said.

"I don't actually do any acting classes so a lot of acting will be good."

Mia is also playing a geek and said it was "cool" to see how they had transformed the movie to a stage production.

Playing a skater, Chloe said she was enjoying practising and doing what she loved alongside her friends. Luis said he was playing a member of the basketball team and had seen the movie "several times".

"We're doing a good adaptation of it so it's really good," he said.

"Im just enjoying hanging with mates while doing something we all love doing."

The production is on August 6-8 with presale tickets available through Ticketek from May 18 and general sales from June 1. Part proceeds go to Telethon.
