WANNEROO’S Alicia Tavani (14) collected a hamper of gifts for the Telethon Type 1 Family Centre which supports people with diabetes.
Having helped at the centre’s opening in 2014, the teenager volunteered to help out with its Christmas party this year.
“I also said that I was able to make up a little Christmas hamper to bring along for the family centre,” she said.
“With this I started up an event on Facebook and invited friends and family which then got shared around.
“We have had so many amazing people come along and support this event by either delivering presents or asking me to meet then at a shopping centre.
“One lady gave me a trolley and told me to keep filling it up until it hit the price of $300.”
Alicia said she received a donation through an online competition, and used a voucher she won to buy board games for the centre.
“We have other amazing donations too which has been awesome, we can’t believe how much we have received; it’s beyond amazing,” she said.
Participating in the Miss Teen Galaxy pageant for her second year, Alicia said volunteering and charity work were the best part of the competition.
“I’m so grateful to be able to represent Wanneroo,” she said.
