PERFORMERS, business owners and cultural groups can put their hands up to take part in the first Wanneroo Festival next year.

The inaugural festival will be held on January 26 at Wanneroo Showground after Wanneroo Council decided to cancel its annual free Wanneroo Presents concert.

Organisers hope the family-friendly event on Australia Day will celebrate and showcase the multicultural communities living in the City of Wanneroo, featuring fireworks and performances from local celebrities.

Multicultural Advisory Group chairman Joe Tuazama said the City had a lot to celebrate.

“The City of Wanneroo’s ethnic diversity is really special,” he said.

“The Wanneroo Festival is a great opportunity for the community to come together to share and experience each other’s cultures.”

Artists and performers as well as retailers and food vendors can submit expressions of interest to participate in the event until October 19.

Visit www.wannerooevents.com.au/wanneroofestival, email events@wanneroo.wa.gov.au or call the events team on 9405 5000.

The festival will follow the Australia Day citizenship ceremony, which has been one of the biggest in the country in recent years.
