Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the first people of Wanneroo, the Nyungar people, were a vital part of the City.

She said Naidoc Week provided a great opportunity to recognise Australia’s vibrant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

‘As a community, we are very fortunate to have a rich Aboriginal culture here,’ she said.

‘We also celebrate the development of a new Reconciliation Action Plan for 2014-2017, which will build positive and lasting relationships and create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the City.’

About 350 people attended the July 9 event at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre and Wanneroo Civic Centre.
