Appleby Park in Darch set to get $300,000 upgrade

A DARCH park is set to get a $300,000 upgrade, including a small basketball court, playground, cycle track and flying fox.

The Wanneroo Council recently endorsed a concept plan for Appleby Park, noting construction would start in February and finish in May 2019.

A June 26 council report said the preferred design option featured activity nodes linked by a path network, including a three-on-three basketball court, bird’s nest swing, net play unit, picnic setting and small cycle track.

“A larger double flying fox is located to the south of the site,” the report said.

It said the City received 104 survey responses during public consultation, with all supporting the redevelopment and many adding other suggestions.

Residents requested barbecue facilities, but the report said that expense could not be covered by the current project, and that toilets would be “an overprovision of amenity”.

It said a water park would also be an overprovision and there were no groundwater resources available in the area for one.

The City allocated $300,000 in its 2018-19 budget for the upgrades, which will be east of the existing park facilities.
