MEET the man responsible for revitalising one of Perth’s premier tourist attractions.

John Lowe embarked on a mission to lift the profile of AQWA at Hillarys Boat Harbour when he was appointed its new general manager in October.

Mr Lowe has a strong background in marketing and said recent developments at AQWA had attracted many more visitors.

“There is a new children’s playground in Stingray Bay and the AQWA Shark mascot now roams the facility every day, posing for photo opportunities with children and adults, and giving the visitors something extra to smile about,” he said.

“Our new state-of-the-art theatrette was opened before the school holidays and we have organised for a local sand sculpture artist to demonstrate his skills and run interactive workshops with the children.

“There are also bigger plans on the horizon, such as the redevelopment of Stingray Bay and the commencement of behind-the-scenes guided tours of the facility.”

Mr Lowe said school excursions to AQWA had never been more popular and more educational resources would be available on the facility’s new website.

He said there was nowhere else in Perth people could dive or snorkel with sharks.

“The AQWA story continues to develop and the vision of creating a magnificent underwater attraction in Perth that generates wonder and respect for WA’s marine life is starting to take shape,” he said.
