Fire causes $200k damage to Koondoola unit

UPDATE, 2.15pm: The Arson Squad have determined that the fire in Koondoola this morning was not suspicious.

EARLIER: THE Arson Squad is investigating a fire at a unit in Koondoola that caused about $200,000 damage.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said firefighters attended after a kitchen fire at a residential unit in Norrie Court was reported about 1.27am on Wednesday.

She said three crews from Malaga, two from Wangara and one from Osborne Park attended and there were no occupants in the unit.

DFES asked police to attend about 2.05am on July 10.

“The fire was inside a unit, and DFES contained the fire to the one unit,” a police spokesman said.

“At this time the cause of the fire has not been determined.

“The Arson Squad attended the residence this morning and are continuing their assessment of the scene of the fire.

“Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

“Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.”
