Artist showcases Rottnest magic

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

Following the success of his last book The River, depicting pictures of the Swan River, Simmonds has taken his art to WA’s favourite holiday island, compiling a number of artwork into his new book Rottnest Island.

He has painted some of his favourite aspects of Rottnest, including Parakeet Bay, Thomson Bay and the Bathurst Lighthouse, interweaving verses from poets and excerpts from the writings of authors on the pages.

Simmonds said it was a great book for Rottnest lovers or a gift for travellers to take home.

‘Rottnest Island is such a gorgeous place to be for anyone ” children, parents, grandparents, and for artists it is a must,’ he said.

‘The book is different to other tourist material in as much as the pictures are pieces of art ” not better than photos, just different by virtue of the magic X-factor in art.’

Simmonds said future works could see him create something that will recognise the upcoming Anzac centenary.
