A SCULPTURE depicting Yanchep Lagoon was one of the artworks recognised at the City of Wanneroo Community Art Awards and Exhibition.

Nine artists shared $16,800 in prizemoney, including Yanchep’s Adam Logie, who won the sculpture category for his wood and resin piece Breathless.

Janey Emery, of Clarkson, was awarded best artwork by a City of Wanneroo resident for her acrylic painting of the karri forest near Boranup. The overall award went to Andy Quilty for Papa #3, a portrait of his father-in-law made using ballpoint pen, charcoal, graphite and aerosol.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said she was impressed with the entries and that a large proportion was submitted by local residents.

“I am so proud of the creativity; each year, the quality of artwork submitted is of such a high standard,” she said.

“It is wonderful to see such strong and diverse art being exhibited and I encourage everyone to take time to view the exhibition.”

The entries will be on display in the gallery at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre until June 11 and visitors there can nominate artworks for the people’s choice award.
