Last year the competition name was changed and artists were invited to produce three pieces instead of just one.
The prize was altered from $15,000, with the winning piece going to the City’s art collection, to $7000 and another $2000 awarded in four other categories.
But last year the expressions of interest from artists plummeted from 97 to 27.
Councillors recently voted to continue with the new name for 2014 and 2015 and pay up to 15 chosen artists $500 each to participate in the event held in the Great Space at Lakeside Joondalup shopping city.
Councillors also endorsed ideas for a potential community education program that could include artists holding talks at Joondalup Art Gallery and also in the exhibition space in the shopping centre. In addition, there would be weekly curator tours.
Participants in the Community Invitation Art Award must be City of Joondalup residents or members of the Joondalup Community Arts Association.
Another event ” the Community Art Exhibition ” was also on the agenda, with councillors voting to have the same award categories this year as in 2013.
A total of $8300 will be distributed across 10 different awards.
