The Leading Seaman joined the navy after completing his certificate two in aero skills when he was 19 and now works maintaining MRH90 troop transport helicopters.

‘There are some aspects of the job only the Defence Force can give you ” how many people can say they have worked on an aircraft on the back of a ship?’ he said. ‘It’s not something you do much of in a civilian life.’

Michael said serving in the navy gave him a sense of pride and he encouraged others to consider a career with defence.

‘Being part of the ADF you really feel like part of a team with a sense of belonging,’ he said.

‘It honestly is the most rewarding job that anyone can do.’
