SENIOR dance students from a Darch school will perform a tribute to service men and women in a state competition on Monday.

Ashdale Secondary College’s Year 11 and 12 dance students will participate in their second Act, Belong, Commit YohFest on August 15.

Teacher Sherree Gull said their dance piece, ‘Photograph’, addressed the resilience service men, women and their families needed during wars.

“When the call came to sign up for the war, our men volunteered bravely,” she said.

“Their letters home gave people hope and something to look forward to, the saddest part was not knowing if they were ever coming home again.”

Miss Gull is choreographing ‘Photograph’ with certificate II in dance students to commemorate the sacrifice men and women made for the country.

“The students are also performing for the first time their own choreographed story dance piece based on resilience as are the Year 9 drama students formulating their own scripted performance for the first time,” she said.
