TWO teams from Ashdale Secondary College in Darch will compete in the 2018 EV (electric vehicle) Challenge this Saturday.

School and corporate teams from around Perth will compete in the October 27 event, which was first established in 2001.

Powered by a limited-capacity battery and built to a restricted budget, 42 entrants have designed and built single seat electric vehicles, which they will race to complete as many laps of a closed course as possible in one hour.

The Synergy-backed event is at the Hurricane Go Kart Club in Wundowie.

“It’s great to see students and teachers working together to design and build their own electric vehicles,” chief executive Jason Waters said.

“The challenge is a great way to foster the understanding of future technology, like EVs, as well as managing the use of electricity in innovative ways.”
