Attempt to simplify WA bureaucracy

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

The Consumer Protection Legislation Amendment Bill, moved last month by Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles, aims to amend 14 Acts.

‘It’s no secret that unnecessary regulation impedes commerce and gives rise to inefficiencies, inconvenience and expense for little or no benefit to businesses or consumers,’ he said.

‘This Bill supplements the reforms already achieved over the last few years, as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to reduce red tape.’

The Bill includes amendments to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, Motor Vehicle Repairers Act, Petroleum Products Pricing Act, Real Estate and Business Agents Act and several licensing Acts.

Mr Miles said the Bill also increased the number of employees allowed to work on a shop floor at the same time, from 18 people to 25 people, and increases the number of retail shops a person may own from three to four.
