REVEALING council documents have exposed an adult underwear business that has been operating in Wangara for more than seven years without approval.

A City of Wanneroo compliance audit found Absolutely Adult had been operating without approval at its Prindiville Drive store since December 2011.

According to a recent council report, Rowe Group asked the City to amend the district planning scheme to allow the restricted premises use last September, a change that has gone out for public consultation.

The applicant advised the shop front was incidental and most of the floor space was used as a warehouse for products.

“The applicant has advised the warehousing and online sales component of the business generates approximately 80 per cent of the business,” a council report said.

The report said the retail portion generated the remaining 20 per cent, with about five customers visiting the store each day.

The report said the City has not received any complaints about traffic generated by the business and parking available was sufficient to meet demand.

Wanneroo Council adopted the planning scheme amendment at its March meeting, and, following approval from the Environmental Protection Authority, last week advertised it for public comment until June 6.

The application said the warehouse component would ordinarily be permitted within the service industrial zone, but fell within the restricted premises use due to the nature of products sold.

It said the shopfront would “display modest, tasteful images and advertising of the business”.

“In addition, when closed the front facade is covered by opaque security shutters covering the window display,” it said.

Operating hours will be restricted to between 10am and 5pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 5pm on Sundays.
