Band’s sights fixed on perth

The Canadian rock band kicked off its 61-date tour of the US and Canada in February, already performing 29 shows over eight weeks.

It follows the release of its eighth studio album No Fixed Address, which debuted at number three on the ARIA album chart.

Now the four lads have a little break before heading to our shores in mid-May, followed by Japan, then back to continue the US and Canada tour from June until September and then a tour of Europe and Russia from October to December.

Its actually about 130 shows and South America and South Africa are going to be going in (the schedule) for next year, Im sure, Kroeger said.

Its going to be ludicrous.

Though missing his family took a little bit of the lustre off global touring, Kroeger said he still enjoyed the hectic schedule.

I love travelling and I love playing and music and this happens to be what the job is, he said.

Its fun and we travel well now. We spend more money than we ever used to.

Trying to get around the world in a year on the cheap can really hurt you.

Another change Kroeger has experienced in Nickelbacks two decades is having a show designer.

The actual situation where you have a show designer indicates that you also have a budget and 20 years ago we sure didnt have a budget, we didnt have anything, he said.

And also, there was a blissful simplicity at that time because we were poor and single and essentially homeless, so everything was spontaneous in those days.

Nickelback will bring its No Fixed Address tour to Perth Arena on May 26.

Weve designed a structure that incorporates video and lighting elements in it and Ive never seen anything like it, Kroeger said.

When we were coming up with the idea, I asked the show designer if hed ever designed this for anybody else and he said No, its been pitched before but nobody used it, so I like that part of it.

He said he also loved the vibe that came with playing arena venues.

Its volume by sheer mass of humanity, he said.

The people, the more of them you get in the room, the louder the place is going to get.
