Banksia Grove Community Centre: community pitches in to add colour

STUDENTS, families and community groups have added a splash of colour to Banksia Grove Community Centre.

The City of Wanneroo hosted the Five Pillar Project: ‘Meeting Place’ event at the centre, with community members invited to paint images on the centre’s pillars.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the activity was designed to create a strong sense of community and welcoming at the facility.

“In the artistic brief, project participants were asked to design images that reflected the growth of the Banksia Grove community,” she said.

“Many families and visitors enjoy the variety of programs offered at the community centre and it is lovely to see the natural environment highlighted in the artwork for all to enjoy.

“The day was enjoyed by 50 local artists who created a real sense of place as they painted the pillars throughout the day.”

Participants included art students from Joseph Banks Community Centre, Cheers Neighbourhood Network, Banksia Grove Aboriginal Art Group, Kadambii Barnao, The Child and Parent Centre – Banksia Grove, Lorna Williams from Groovy Grannies and Goodstart Early Learning, Banksia Grove.
