Barbagallo Raceway puts brakes on motorcycle racing: reports

THE WA Sporting Car Club has reportedly heeded a recommendation for motorcycle racing to stop at Barbagallo Raceway amid safety concerns.

The decision comes after Department of Sport and Recreation officials received results from a safety audit they requested earlier this year after the death of racer Daniel Chadbund.

Mr Chadbund crashed and slid into a barrier at the course in April.

Criticisms of the suitability of the track for motorcyclists have focussed on certain barriers being too close.

The latest death at the track came on Saturday when 21-year-old Chris Adley crashed his motorcycle and was run over by a competitor behind him.

Another rider was seriously injured at the same meet in a separate incident.

But Motorcycling WA emphasised neither incident involved a crash with a barrier.

Community News has contacted the WA Sporting Car Club and Motorcycling WA chief executive Rick Gill for comment.

More to come.
