THE debut Below Zero Winter Festival is set to heat up the new amphitheatre at Sorrento Quay Boardwalk from today.

The 10-day event will run until August 7 as part of Coveted Events’ Floating Winter Series to officially launch the $2 million multi-purpose venue at Hillarys Boat Harbour.

The series also included the Frostival outdoor ice-skating rink for the July school holidays.

Described as being “angelic by day and debaucherous at night”, the Below Zero Winter Festival features 25 live shows and five creative workshops, as well as children’s entertainment, a festive playground and “hot drinks and comforting eats” to keep punters warm.

The Little Palais pop-up venue will host a range of shows including live music, theatre, cabaret, burlesque, stand-up comedy, circus and illusion.

Acts include comedians Peter Rowsthorn, Janelle Koenig and Tomas Ford, children’s entertainer Famous Sharron, illusionists Adam and Selina and musician Timothy Nelson with special guest Cubs, while workshops will feature soy candles, terrariums and flower crowns.

“There is such a thriving arts scene in WA and we want to promote home-grown artists, creatives and performers,” Coveted Events managing director Kelly Price said.

“We encourage the people of Perth to shake off their winter sweatpants and enjoy a live show or creative workshop at The Little Palais.”
