Bonuses exceed $51,000

The Weekender asked the city if it would review its bonus scheme after such schemes in local government came under criticism last week from Premier Colin Barnett.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the scheme had been in place at Wanneroo for a ‘considerable time’.

‘As the directors’ salaries are not automatically annually reviewed or indexed, the CEO will be reviewing the bonus scheme in the near future,’ she said.

Mrs Roberts said five directors were entitled to be considered for a discretionary merit-based bonus.

‘(It is) determined by the CEO, subject to meeting or exceeding set KPIs as provided for in their employment contract,’ she said.

The chief executive and five directors received a total in bonuses of $51,710 last financial year. The chief executive’s bonus was 9.5 per cent of his base salary.
