It received the inaugural Local Government Best Practice award at the Master Builders WA Housing Excellence Awards on February 27.
Mayor Tracey Roberts congratulated the building services team.
“This is a significant award for the City as we were nominated and judged by the building sector for excellence in building approvals and service,” she said.
Recognising the important role that local government played in the building industry, Master Builders introduced the award this year to acknowledge top-performing councils.
The City was voted by builder members as a leader in efficiency and responsiveness with building applications and customer service.
“In recent years, the City has really worked on improving our efficiency in this area,” Mrs Roberts said.
“What makes our fast turn-around times even more impressive is that Wanneroo is one of the busiest local governments for building approvals, processing more than 7000 in each of the past two years.”
The win follows a back-log in mid-2014 when the City reimbursed 240 application fees totalling more than $100,000 after exceeding the regulated assessment timeframe.
