Building site burglars busted

Bryce LuffWanneroo Times

Busted, an acronym for Builders United to Stop Theft, was formed by companies representing about 60 per cent of new home starts in Perth one year ago.

The aim was to stop thousands of dollars being lost when water meters, tools, white goods and other items are stolen from homes under construction.

Celebration Homes site manager Nick Bloomfield said Busted, which is managed by Meridian Security, worked closely with site managers and trade teams to collect witness statements, photographs and other evidence which could be passed on to police.

Illegal dumping has also been a problem.

"Even if we are unable to catch the criminals the incident will be a valuable statistic that Busted can present to councils and the police," Mr Bloomfield said.

Earlier this year Busted planted tracking devices in some frequently stolen items.
