Call for doctor’s surgery

Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles, Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts and several councillors attended the first meeting for 2014.

Drovers Market Place was identified as a possible site for a bulk bill surgery and training facility after Medicare classified the surrounding suburbs as an ‘area of need’ for medical care. Cr Dot Newton said a medical centre was not permitted in the Drovers structure plan.

‘A scheme amendment would have to go through in order to rezone the land in order to allow a medical centre,’ she said.

‘That would be a difficult site to achieve a medical centre on in a reasonable amount of time.’

Other items on the agenda included the need for traffic lights at the intersection of Cheriton and Joondalup Drives, Carramar, as well as Pinjar Road at Nambi Parkway, Banksia Grove and Yandella Promenade in Tapping.

Cr Dianne Guise said traffic lights at Cheriton Drive were listed in the City’s 10-year capital works plan for installation in 2016-17.

Association president Maria Szep said the group would circulate a petition to have the lights installed earlier.
