After volunteering with her mum Ziggi Murphy at Express Wildlife Rescue and fostering animals from SAFE Perth, Delainey created an online auction with the profits going to the organisations. She was also inspired by Express Wildlife animal carer Andrea.

‘I wanted to help because Andrea works so hard and she cares for animals everyday, all day, all by herself,’ Delainey said.

She was excited by the response, with 150 people liking the Facebook page.

‘It’s all for the animals so everyone wanted to help out,’ she said. ‘It (the Facebook page) got shared around lots of groups so people from other pet pages were getting involved.’

Delainey emailed pet suppliers and received donations for the auction.

Neighbours and friends also rallied together to collect items which were posted on Facebook and bid on.

Mrs Murphy said her daughter did it all on her own but it was not easy. ‘She was disheartened at first when she got replies saying no, but then she started getting emails from people saying ‘sure come and collect some things’,’ Mrs Murphy said. One item donated included a $315 voucher for a pet portrait.
