CARRAMAR couple John and Shirley Morris are celebrating their 60th anniversary this week.

John and Shirley Morris on their wedding day in 1959.

They met at a dance in Maidenhead in the UK and courted for 18 months before marrying on July 11, 1959.

Their first daughter was born in 1966 and their second arrived in 1967.

The young family migrated to Australia, arriving in Fremantle on Februry 28, 1969, and settled in Hamersley with 50 other migrant families.

“We were some of the 10 pound poms,” Mrs Morris said.

“We love our life here and know we did the right thing moving to Australia.

“We have moved several times and now live in Carramar.

“One of our houses we built ourselves travelling to Woodridge on weekends.

“We also built a yacht and sailed it for a few years, moored at Hillarys.”

Mr Morris worked as a plumber and his wife worked in supermarkets.

The couple, who have three grandsons and five step-grandchildren, celebrated their diamond anniversary with a party on July 6.
