WHAT started as a “bit of banter” around the Carramar Football Club has become a soccer match for a good cause.
On Friday night, the club’s women’s division 6 league champions will take on the men’s over-45s from 7pm at Carramar Oval.
Club president Denis Cleary said many of the over-45s wives played for the women’s team so there had been a lot of talk about which team was better.
“We decided both teams should play each other and see who really is best,” Mr Cleary said.
“And we thought we may as well make some money out of it.”
The “battle of the sexes” charity match will raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Care WA, with players to wear bras on the field and spectators to pay a gold coin donation.
There will also be raffles, the sale of food and drink and a cameo appearance from former Matildas vice captain Collette McCallum.
Mr Cleary said this was the first time the club had held a match like this and he was sure it would continue and expand in the future.
