CARRAMAR artist Madeline McAllan has won a minor prize at the Youth Black Swan Prize for Portraiture.

The St Stephen’s Student was awarded in the Year 11-12 category at a ceremony at Brookfield Place in the Perth CBD, where all works will be on display until the end of the month.

Her work was a lifelike sketch of her grandfather inspired by years of childhood memories together.

Victorian high school student Bahji Nguyen from Werribee Secondary College took out the main prize for Year 11-12 with a colourful self portrait, while Anna Healy from

Penrhos College won the other minor award.

More than 200 young artists entered the prestigious portrait prize this year, the second largest total to enter since ARTrinsic Inc conceived the event 12 years ago.

There were 27 finalists from WA, two from Victoria and one from Queensland.
