THE City of Wanneroo took advantage of a visit by Premier Colin Barnett and Cabinet ministers last week to lobby for infrastructure projects.

A video showcasing the region’s growth and potential was shown to Mr Barnett and his Cabinet team.

State Cabinet held its travelling meeting, or “Community Cabinet”, in the Wanneroo council chambers on September 7.

With the City’s population of 187,000 expected to grow to more than 350,000 by 2036, Mayor Tracey Roberts said accommodating that growth needed collaborative planning at a local, regional, state and national levels.

“We will maintain our campaign for the extension of the freeway to Romeo Road, the extension of the northern rail line to Yanchep as soon as possible and the development of the Yanchep strategic metropolitan centre – in addition to the need for more regional sporting fields for residents,” Mrs Roberts said.

Meetings with ministers also included discussions on rezoning areas in Wanneroo, Girrawheen and Koondoola, which could eventually lead to residents being able to subdivide their properties.
