Caterina enjoys her special day

Living comfortably at Villa Terenzio with her twin sisters, she has regular visits from a large and adoring family.

Born in Ferraro, Calabria, Italy on November 7, 1913, Caterina was one of nine children born to Maria Rosa and Domenico Barbieri.

She married Nicodemo Catalano in 1935, raising five girls and four boys. In 1968, the couple and four children joined the rest of the family in Perth and Caterina found work at St Anne’s Hospital.

Widowed in 1986, she lived with son Tony and then daughter Ida before moving to Italian Aged Care because of declining health.

Caterina’s family includes 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, all regular visitors to their ‘beloved nonna.’
