Khadeeja said she learnt of BellaBoo Beauty Enterprise’s Aboriginal modelling recruitment drive on Facebook and submitted photos, although she had not done any modelling since she was young.
One of 24 models chosen from around Australia for a 12-month contract, she said she was excited and looking forward to travelling to Sydney for the first time in August.
The opportunity will mean she has to take time off studying her business course, but the Year 12 Clarkson Community High student hoped it would open more doors.
‘Hopefully it turns into a full-time career,’ she said.
Her mother Raelene Cross said Khadeeja was the second oldest of five children, and the only girl, so she had learnt to make her stand quickly.
‘She loves going to AFL games and avidly supports her Freo Dockers, and also just loves spending time chilling with her friends,’ Mrs Cross said.
‘She is very proud of her heritage, being part Aboriginal and part Belizean.
‘It would be nice for other Aboriginal girls to see that they can achieve anything if they put their minds to it.’
