City help for safari

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

Wanneroo councillors supported the sponsorship of the Australasian Safari at the May council meeting and approved the use of Wanneroo Showground as its headquarters and temporary camping site for about 500 competitors and staff over three nights.

A council report said the event was well-known and would attract competitors from around the globe, including China, France, UK, Thailand, South Africa, USA, Italy and Germany.

As well as the $10,000 sponsorship, councillors waived fees for caravans, camping, building approval and trading in public places to the value of $654.

Australasian Safari will pay the City $3246 for the hire of the Margaret Cockman Pavilion and ‘reserve hire’.
