City hooning probe

Mr Nguyen said hooning was frequent on the strip, between Hudson Avenue and Marangaroo Drive, and two cars had crashed into his property since he moved there 20 years ago.

‘I am concerned about my family’s welfare as well as the welfare of people who use this passageway, shoppers, pedestrians, it’s a real concern,’ he said.

‘It’s just a matter of time before someone is injured or killed.’

There are three entrances to Newpark Shopping Centre and a fast food outlet on the short stretch of road.

‘It is a safety concern as many people use this part of the road and I am very anxious someone will be hurt,’ Mr Nguyen said.

Similar concerns from neighbouring residents prompted South Ward councillor Hugh Nguyen (not related) to present a report to council on July 22.

Councillors requested City staff prepare a traffic management plan and report to council within six months.

The council report also requested City staff write to WA police seeking enforcement of hoon and speeding behaviour in Templeton Crescent.
